The Department of Chemical and Life Science Engineering (CLSE) of the College of Engineering (CoEngr) at Virginia
Commonwealth University (VCU) has a tenure track or tenured faculty opening at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor rank. CLSE is
an ABET accredited program offering BS, MS, and PhD degrees with scholarly achievement in the areas of stem cell engineering, synthetic
biology, molecular therapeutics and protein engineering, nanotechnology and nanomaterials, microfluidics and catalysis, novel polymeric
materials, and thermodynamics of supercritical fluids (http://www.chemical.egr.vcu.edu).
The CLSE Department is housed in the College of Engineering at VCU which was
established by the VCU College of Engineering Foundation and is comprised of 11 full-time faculty, more than 200 undergraduate students, and
30 full time graduate students. Facilities include the Institute for Engineering and Medicines, the Biotech 8 Research Facility, the
Translational Research Innovation Projects Center, and the Nanotechnology Characterization Center housing advanced instrumentation.
Collaborations exist with VCU Life Sciences, the Rice Institute for Environmental Life Sciences, and the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, and
Dentistry at VCU. Additional information about the VCU College of Engineering can be found at: www.egr.vcu.edu.
Research areas are open, and outstanding candidates from all areas including traditional and
developing areas are encouraged to apply. Candidates with research interests in pharmaceutical engineering (reactor engineering, continuous
process engineering, particle sciences engineering, drug delivery), catalysis (chemical or bio), or computational and data sciences in
chemicals and materials are especially encouraged to apply.
Mission or Goal of Unit:
Mission: To value
discovery and creativity of our entire engineering community; students, faculty and staff; to value diversity of ideas of our engineering
community; students, faculty and staff; to value personalized attention in teaching, learning, and service to all of our constituents
including our students; their families, our industrial partners and collaborators, and colleagues throughout the university and business
communities; and to value the significant and positive impact of our people and ideas in the promotion of regional and global prosperity
involving research and life sciences. In addition all goals and objectives of the College of Engineering complement the Mission of the
