Essential equipment for training with resistance bands in 2022

If you want to increase your workout, you do not need to increase your weight or your speed to do so. Increasing the resistance in your training with resistance bands, even in small steps, can add some intensity to your training routine and help you become more toned along the way.

Fitness expert Stephanie Mansour stopped by TODAY to share a 10-minute resistance band routine that you can use to start tackling your health goals. But to set yourself up for success, you need a few tools to get through a workout.

Resistance equipment for training

Spread Xertube resistance band

These bands have handles that Mansour says help you gain more control over a resistance band. To use them, simply hold on to the handles and then step on the straps. With these straps you can complete exercises like bicep curls, overhead presses and bent rows.

Bala bracelet

Bala bracelets come in 1- and 2-pound sizes and can be used as both wrist and ankle weights. Mansour says ankle weights can help improve your workout and make movements like leg lifts and fire hydrants a little more intense.

Kidney resistance band

Small loop straps like these are an easy way to increase your squats for extra burn, and they can help you focus on stability and control. If you wrap them around your thighs and ankles, Mansour says they are a great way to work on the glutes and lower body. Once they are around your thighs, you can use them to perform exercises such as bridge postures and side leg lifts. When using them around your ankles, use them to do side steps and squats. The set comes with five different bands that range in different intensity levels, from extra light to extra heavy.

This pilates ring can be used to work on your inner and outer thighs plus your core, according to Mansour. It comes in black, pink, purple and blue if you want a ring that matches your workout clothes.

Theraband beginner set

Anyone who just wants a good stretch, is recovering from an injury or undergoing physiotherapy can appreciate these ties. They have no handles and are open so you can use them to stretch your legs and upper body. To use them, hold on to the strap while sitting and then pull on the strap while it is wrapped around your foot to stretch the buttocks and calves. To use them while standing, hold the strap while it is over your head, and move your arms from side to side to stretch your chest, biceps, and armpits.
