Rita Wilson will play the role of Carolyn in the Yellowstone prequel series, 1883, after her husband Tom Hanks’ guest role in episode 2.
That Yellowstone prequel series, 1883, has cast Rita Wilson in an upcoming guest role. Starring Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, 1883 traces the origin of Yellowstone‘s central Dutton family and their migration westward after the Civil War to eventually become the largest landowners in Montana. Judging expectations were certainly high given how Yellowstone quickly became one of the most watched dramas on television, however 1883The December 19 premiere broke records and became the largest cable series premiere in six years. The new series has gained a stable viewership over its first three episodes thanks to a strong cast and an interesting gallery of guest stars, including Dawn Olivieri from Heroes and shockingly enough the peer Tom Hanks.
To keep it in the family as only Yellowstone able to, Variety reports that Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson will be a guest star in an upcoming episode of 1883. Wilson is to play a whiskey-pouring store owner named Carolyn, who becomes related to Margaret Dutton, played by Faith Hill. It’s currently unclear whether Wilson’s Carolyn will have a multi-episode arc or just have a cameo, as Hanks did in episode 2.
During his more than 40-year career, Wilson starred in Sleepless in Seattle, Jingle all the way, and countless other hilarious classics. Her guest role continues 1883 consistent with her recent emphasis on television work, which has included recurring roles in Girls, Pitch, and The good wife. If Yellowstone prequel mimics momentum in its mother series has maintained over four seasons, several high-profile actors will undeniably be attracted to 1883‘s authentic western aesthetic that has defined some of the greatest TV shows ever.
