Tom Holland is already playing one of the most famous characters throughout pop culture, but at one point he tried, and failed to play another. In a new interview, Holland admitted that he once beat the people in control the rights to James Bond on an origin story with him at the helm.
“I had a meeting, after or during Spider-Man 2 [Far From Home], with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond movie that I had come up with, “Holland told Total Film Magazine. “It was the origin story of James Bond. It did not really make sense. It did not work. It was a young child’s dream, and I do not think the Bond estate was particularly interested.”
Which one, if you watched the latest Bond movie, makes perfect sense. Part of the attraction of James Bond is not only that he is confident, kind and wise beyond his years – ietis that he is sophisticated enough to get brand approvals from advanced adult companies: watches, cars, beer, etc. On paper the idea of Tom Holland as James Bond before he was 007, fumbled around in MI6 and getting out on an adventure sounds fun. But it humanizes and demystifies him in a way that is not related to the brand as it looks at the moment. (Not that it did not before, with mixed results.)
But the brand it is struggling with, Is Uncharted, and which Holland was passionate about one fairy tale-the origin story of the style influenced him to get that role. “The idea of a young Bond film, in turn, triggered the idea that one could make a Nathan Drake story as an origin story rather than as an addition to the games. And that opened a conversation,” Holland said.
So Holland continued to play along Uncharted, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters on February 18th. Whether that movie will work or not is yet unknown, but let us know if you think a young James Bond movie could work in any capacity.
