Hell # 4 takes place largely around Charles and Erik’s doomed battle with the Omega Sentinel and Nimrod, after Mystique and Destiny lead them on a hunt for the captured Moira – one who ends up with their temporary death. It is symbolic of the broader machine-man-mutant threat that has formed the basis of Moira’s own long, twisted mission through her many lives since House and Powers, where Charles and Erik’s brutal ending reflects the inevitable doom they have fought against, since Moira let them into his secret. But beyond the clash of wills, the problem mostly flashes back to the minutes and hours that led up to it in the rest of Hells big players, fill in the blanks in their plans as they all prepare to jump them out. Mystique and Destiny, for example, reveal that although they fully intend to kill Moira as an act of revenge for the manipulation of her generations, they first plan to preserve her “perfect” timeline by committing a horrific act that Moira herself craves for life. : blew her up with Forge’s banned x-gene erasure gun, acquired from Emma Frost, does her Moira Ten no more, but the human being the rest of the world actually once thought she was.

Moira is only saved from a final death by Doug’s intervention, which together with his wife Bei and Warlock devises his own plan and comes to Moira’s aid. It is not out of kindness, but out of bitter mercy – as he has previously discovered her existence thanks to Warlock’s symbiotic connection to the whole of Krakow, as well as Moira’s desire to assassinate Destiny once and for all in order to preserve Charles and Erik’s current status quo , Doug simply averts the situation and exiles Moira altogether-gshe has one last entrance to escape through, never to return to the paradise she helped create. But even that is not before actual the truth that changes X-Men’s world forever when they enter Destiny of X emerges. ONE the vicious, bitter Moira strikes out at Mystique and Destiny to reveal that the darkest truth is not her existence behind the scenes with Charles and Erik, but the truth she told them to fight against in the first place: no matter how ascending Krakoa looks in the here and now, the doom of mutant cheeks is inevitable, and no matter how many times she had tried to change fate, they always lost.

Mystique, who is Mystique, simply cannot keep this to herself, even though she and Destiny promise the fleeing Moira that one day they will come and finish the work they had begun. That’s where it’s Hell becomes most destructive. In the week it takes the five to revive Charles and Erik after their losses to Nimrod and the Omega Sentinel, their dream has changed quite radically – even though everything on the surface looks like it was. With Cerebro injured in the attack, none of them fully remember what laughsd to their death, and resound themselves first pages of House X # 1, they wake up to the sight of Emma Frost, wearing the latest iteration of Cerebro, mockingly calling to her, her X-Men. Emma has all the power that Charles once did on the previous pages, but she reveals that she has actually been somewhat democratic about it. Emma, who mocks Moira’s name, reveals that it is not only her, Doug, Mystique and Destiny who know of Moira’s existence and her prophesied warning of mutant child failure, but now the entire Quiet Council that touches every corner of the Krakow community. The power in the council has now become a flat level, as Charles and Erik no longer keep all the cards to themselves – and ascent to its ranks is to be cursed with the burden of the most grim knowledge.

But the council still stands, and Hell ends with all its hopes burned to ashes as Krakoa’s shepherds gather and hold on to the lie that makes paradise tick. What will become of Professor X and Magneto’s dream without Moira? What will become of it if their closest allies now can not really believe it? What will it mean to be Immortal X-Men, in an era apparently doomed to such a serious fate? Time will tell as the months and weeks leading up to the start of Destiny of X in April begin to count down.

Suffice it to say that living forever has not been without some reservations for the best and smartest of mutant children in the last few years – but now these reservations are slowly eroding the hope that the Krakoan era was built on, the mutant dream is actually on the way to a terrible road. .. if not a final ending altogether.
