Ozark is releasing intense first trailer for the show’s final season

A new trailer for Ozark Season 4 Part 1 shows the Byrde family in the good likes of the Navarro cartel, but promises that no one can come out clean.

Netflix has released a gripping new trailer for the first part of Ozark‘s fourth and final season, showing the Byrde family in a new position of power but a new, unified local threat to be content with.

The trailer begins with Marty and Wendy Byrde sitting at a roulette table, welcoming rival Darlene Snell to sit and receive a brutal warning from the Navarro cartel. Before they begin, Darlene insists on introducing her new partner, Marty’s former protégé Ruth Langmore. For once, Byrdes is the house. But everyone gambles with their lives here.

Ozark tells the story of Chicago’s financial adviser and money launderer Marty Byrde, who moves his family to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri to appease the anger of a Mexican drug cartel. To compensate for a crooked partner who frothed from the cartel, Marty offers to establish an even more lucrative money laundering operation out of the strip clubs and casinos in the tourist-friendly Ozarks region. While the Byrde family gets used to their full new lives, Wendy uses her skills as a political PR employee to make connections with corrupt officials and companies.

Ozark has been widely recognized for its complex plot filled with murder, betrayal and shifting loyalty. The Byrdes family not only deals with threats from the Navarro cartel, but fights to move into drug territory that has long been held by the Snell clan and mob plans run by the Kansas City Mafia. Season 3 ended with a shocking victory for Byrdes, who apparently landed them in a new secure position of power, but then also saw local threats – a vengeful Darlene Snell and disillusioned Ruth Langmore – unite against the outsiders.

Star Jason Bateman has been praised especially for his complex portrayal of Marty, where he compares to Bryan Cranston’s Walter White and has received nominations for Best Actor in a Drama from the Emmys, Golden Globe Awards, SAG Awards and more. With Ozark confirmed to finish after season 4, Bateman will have one last chance to enroll Marty in the pantheon of good characters who have become criminally bad.

Whether Marty will succeed or even survive is anyone’s guess. “Your biggest threat will always come from within, Marty,” Navarro warns in the trailer. “Never forget it.”

Ozark Season 4 Part 1 consists of seven episodes that will begin streaming on Netflix on January 21st.
