2022 is officially here, and although we can still date documents with 2021 in the next few weeks (or months), a new class of modern design trends has arrived to remind us that time is actually moving forward and that we are not stuck in a 2020 loop, though it sometimes feels that way. From jewel tones and checkered prints to natural textures and craftsmanship, there is no shortage of design trends to play with this year – but if you’ve in doubt about where to start, Design Milk editors share their top design trends for 2022 along with modern interior design choices to experiment with at home!
“With all the time spent indoors over the last few years, it’s no surprise that biofilt design – a design concept centered on bringing nature indoors – is trending for 2022. While biofilt design has been common in architecture for years, we will see more home furniture and furnishings sprout up (no pun) around the concept this year, which means everyone can experience the restorative benefits of mother nature at home.Experiments with indirect natural elements by incorporating natural shapes, materials and textures into your space , or bring in the green with planters and vases self-watering plant box by Greenery Unlimited allows you to do just that with minimal hassle – its water reservoir keeps the plants hydrated at their own pace for weeks – and it has a modern aesthetic that will complement any interior design style ”

“Minimalism always seems to be on trend, but in recent times maximalism has risen to the top. Maybe it’s because we’re all stuck inside our homes during this endless pandemic, and we want something more – bold colors. , repetitive patterns, geometric shapes, etc. – all to make our eyes dance around and be happy while we stay inside and stare at our same four walls. Optical motion blanket from DittoHouse is the perfect example with its juxtaposed diagonal lines in four colors that create an optical illusion. It would be a bright, bold and super fun addition to any sofa! “

“Everything oversized has taken off lately and I could not love the trend anymore! After the last few years we have experienced, and now it is the middle of winter, it all just feels very comforting and light-hearted. Two things I think most of us would not mind having a little more of in our lives. Aside from what may seem like the obvious choices of crowded and exaggerated furniture, there are also some other subtle ways to bring the trend into your space. A few ideas that come to mind are Cloudnolas Screw-on hook set and Bendo’s CLIP wall hook – both ideal for keeping winter coats away from the floor and generally clutter in order, while giving a solid visual statement. I should also mention a personal favorite: Poketo’s Spectrum Wall Planner. I’m a person who writes everything down and needs to look forward to weeks at a time, and the simple graphic design of this great calendar makes for an oversized, useful effect. “

“The wavy + curved trend really has a moment right now and it does not seem to be going anywhere. Curved doorways, chairs with curved backrests, curved candlesticks, rounded sofas, concrete tiles with a wavy design, curved headboards – there is no shortage of waves and curves in the design world! I personally love this trend and hope to see different iterations of it in the new year. Maybe a curved doggie door or a wavy bench of some sort? If you want to incorporate this trend, you can go big with a DIY curved doorway (it’s possible, I’ve seen it on @dwellaware!) Or make a decorative statement with the hot wave on Bleach carpet by Carret design”

“The art of blocking colors – combining bold, solid shades for a graphic and modern design aesthetic – will thrive this year, and fortunately for design lovers everywhere, the boundless color spectrum offers countless opportunities to play with the trend. Small accessories like this bathroom shower curtain, accent pieces like this Heymat left, or a piece of wall art like this Tom Pigeon print, are all great ways to get started. My personal favorite? Jillian Rene Decor’s Monochromatic color block cushion cover. I love the minimal design of these covers, and the range of eye-catching color options guarantees that there will be a shade for you. Plus, pillowcases give you the freedom to try the trend in different areas of your home with ease – turn the same pillow from your bed to your sofa and to an accent chair when the mood strikes! “
