Star Wars Concept Art reveals Lando’s unused crossbow glove

Concept designer Matthew Savage unveils a piece of Star Wars concept art by Lando Calrisian’s cropped crossbow glove from The Rise of Skywalker.

Concept designer Matthew Savage reveals a piece of Star wars concept art by Lando Calrissians cut crossbow glove from The Rise of Skywalker. Billy Dee Williams repeated the role of the villain who became baron-turned-Rebel Alliance general in the third and final film of the sequel trilogy in 2019. Williams shared the screen with Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels and Joonas Suotamo.

After being absent in the first two films of the sequel trilogy, the lovable villain returned at the end of the Skywalker saga. On the trail of a Sith killer, Ochi from Bestoon, Rey, Finn, Poe, C-3PO and Chewbacca are rescued from first-order forces by a masked figure who was later revealed to be Lando. Veteran Rebel reveals that he once pursued Ochi with Luke Skywalker, giving the heroes Ochi’s last known location. Although Lando’s role in The Rise of Skywalker was short, the villain will return in his own Disney + series, although it is unknown whether Williams or Donald Glover who played Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars story, will portray him. While Calrissian’s future is a mystery, artist Savage has revealed a hidden idea conceived for the character’s arsenal.

Shared on his personal Instagram account, senior concept designer Savage shared two photos showing the rebel hero’s cut Rise of Skywalker arms. The first image showed an overview of the crimson cape with sketches of different angles, while the second image gave fans a closer look and highlighted the less technological and worn details. Savage commented that he had been inspired by weapons such as The Mandalorians “Whistling birdsgloves, as well as the hidden blade seen in Assassin’s Creed franchise. Lando’s gear is not the only aspect of the character that the film omitted then Rise of Skywalker romanization suggested a clipped subplot that further explores his whereabouts during the nearly three decades between the original and sequel trilogy. The novelization says that while helping Luke find lost Sith secrets, Lando suffered a crushing blow from the followers of the dark side as his child is abducted. While the final editing of the film omitted these details, the upcoming novel Shadow of the Sith by Ada Christopher promises to explore Lando and Luke’s journey.

Although cut from the last film in the saga, Lando’s hidden bow is a weapon that fits Star wars perfect. It not only works with Lando’s subdued nature on the Passana, but could perhaps be characterized in the saga as a weapon with a mandaloric design that nods back to Savage’s inspirations. With Lando set to return in the future on screen, this concept could perhaps be reused there, giving the idea new life.
