The young Welsh artist who has taken the art world by storm has unveiled his latest painting – a self-portrait.

Entitled ‘Self-RED’, art prodigy Makenzy Beard is seen wearing her red coat, apparently one of her favorite clothes.

It is the latest in a series of paintings that have left the art world reaching for superlatives to describe the novice painter’s work.

The unveiling of the painting follows last month’s launch of The Makenzy Beard Collection – a series of limited edition prints and original paintings showcasing the 15-year-old’s stunning artwork.

The collection, launched via the Blackwater Gallery in Cardiff, included her two most famous paintings.

When the artist unveiled a painting of his grampa back in October, it sent shock waves through social media.

Such was the amazement at the teenager’s amazing talent, which was unanimous recognition of how ingenious her portrait of her grampa, Bernard Davies, really was.

The young Welsh painter went viral earlier this year thanks to a beautiful work of art that people could not believe was painted by such a young man.

Back in June, Makenzy, a student at Bishopton Comprehensive School in Swansea, received thousands of praises online after her artwork by a local farmer named John Tucker was posted on Twitter by her school.

The incredibly lifelike portrait was hailed as so good that it looked like a photograph that captured the farmer in a hi-vis jacket and a knit hat.

Makenzy’s painting was so impressive that it was selected for exhibition at the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show in London.

Tributes to her art have included such words of praise as: “In 15-year-old Makenzy Beard, we may well experience the emergence of Wales’ greatest living artist.”

It is noteworthy that Makenzy, who is also a talented hockey player representing Wales at below 16s level, only started painting during lockdown as she could not play sports.

Her unique artistic talent has not gone unnoticed by the art world, where the young painter is now represented by the Blackwater Gallery.

The Cardiff Bay-based independent contemporary art gallery focuses on providing a platform for new artists as well as abstract and expressive contemporary art.
