Back in September, Netflix revealed the first look at it Kanye West documentary, they premiere in February. Formerly referred to as a “landmark documentary”, we can now see what the streaming giant meant when the scope of jeen-yuhs: A Kanye trilogy has been revealed by Netflix and Iconic Events Releasing today. The project is set to chronicle 20 years in the world-famous rapper’s life and career.
As the name makes clear, jeen-yhs becomes a three-part event that puts its relevance in a whole new light. For a documentary spanning two decades, three separate films seem to fit well, as West’s contributions to music and culture and his controversial persona are a little too complex for a limited playing time.
jeen-yuhs: A Kanye trilogy also gets a special premiere: Iconic Events Releasing decided to debut the first part of the documentary at the virtual Sundance Film Festival, which takes place later this month. Then the first part (called “Act I”) of the documentary will also premiere in cinemas across the country on February 10th. Then Netflix comes out jeen-yuhs: A Kanye trilogy across three weeks starting on February 16th.
When we talk about the decision to give the Kanye documentary an event and cinema release, Steve Bunnell, CEO of Iconic Events Releasing stated that the story deserves as much attention as possible and is better experienced in a cinema:

The three parts of jeen-yuhs: A Kanye trilogy is directed by filmmakers Coodie Simmons and Chick Ozah, who has followed Kanye’s career and musical impact over the years and directed a music video for the artist’s hit single, “Jesus Walks.” They also directed music videos for artists such as Pitbull, Erykah Badu, as well as, A child from Coney Island, a feature documentary about a former NBA star Stephon Marbury.
Act I of jeen-yuhs: A Kanye trilogy premieres at the Sundance Film Festival on special screenings between 23-26. January. You can find more information on Sundance’s official website. Then Law I is off jeen-yuhs: A Kanye trilogy premieres in theaters across the country on February 10th. Last but not least, Netflix premieres the documentary’s three acts over three weeks, starting on February 16.
