University of Notre Dame
The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Tutoring Assistant (Part-Time, Temp).
Applications will be accepted until 1/21/2022.
The Tutoring Assistant will work as part of the TutorND tutor corps to deliver free, evidence-based learning and enrichment programs to children in the Notre Dame family (broadly defined to include children of ND employees, children in the local South Bend community, and children across the country in the classrooms of ACE Teaching Fellows).
The TutorND registration prioritizes children who do not have access to high quality tutoring and intervention programs, so the tutoring assistant will be part of a team helping to close opportunity gaps throughout the US. The tutoring assistant will be supervised by an instructional coach and will work in person at local schools and/or via Zoom in one-on-one or small groups with children in grades 1-9 on structured math and/or literacy programs.
Individuals in this position will be matched with their students for the spring session and are expected to provide children with a supportive and consistent relationship over the spring session. Tutoring assistants will receive training on principles of high-quality tutorials, relationship building, how to organize instruction to improve student learning, and how to implement the specific evidence-based literacy and math programs and practices that they are asked to use with their assigned students. They will be part of a collaborative learning community filled with other tutoring assistants, tutoring specialists, and instructional coaches to ask questions and share ideas. They also will receive training on working safely with children and will need to pass training and necessary background checks before being approved to work with the children.
This is a temporary, part-time seasonal position during the spring semester.
High school diploma required and current enrollment in college or technical school preferred; must be comfortable with technology; tutors who tutor remotely must own a computer or laptop that can be used for Zoom sessions and have a space appropriate to conduct remote Zoom sessions with children; tutors who tutor in person must be able to travel to local schools in the South Bend community. Tutoring assistants must commit to working a minimum of 3 hours per week.
Prior experience working with children in a teaching, tutoring, or learning setting in a variety of content areas. Tutoring assistants who can work at a local South Bend area school on T/TH 3-4 pm and W 4-5:45 pm are highly encouraged to apply.
