Democrats want to provide free COVID-19 testing at home to everyone

As coronavirus cases rise again in the United States, Democrats want to get free fast COVID-19 tests in people’s hands for regular testing.

On Wednesday, the House Democrats introduced Free home test for everyone Law that would require the federal Department of Health and Human Services to buy enough quick home tests to provide two tests a week for a year to anyone living in the United States – for free.

The bill, led by reps. Don Beyer (Va.), Dina Titus (Nev.), Joe Morelle (NY) and Kaialiʻi Kahele (Hawaii), demand that the tests be made available through pharmacies, schools and by online or telephone ordering.

“Like ours society is adapting to the threat from Covid, a major challenge that continues to confront the country is the need for more tests, “Beyer said in a news release release. “We all want a return to normalcy, and we need more accessible and affordable home tests to help get there.”

Lawmakers welcomed President Joe Biden’s administration’s recent measures to increase the availability of free tests at community clinics, as well as requirement that private insurance companies cover the cost of home testing. But the latter does not benefit the millions of people in the United States who do not have private health insurance.

Earlier Wednesday d. Late. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) Reintroduced legislation that would allow the government to send three N95 breathing masks to everyone in the country.

The United States has seen one steep rises in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks as the highly contagious omicron variant spreads. Hospital admissions and deaths remain low for people who are fully vaccinated and boosted.
