A popular vegan eatery has felt the pain of the pandemic and closed the doors to its original location forever.

Detroit Vegan Soul announced in a Facebook post last week that it would not reopen its West Village location.

In the post, the Detroit Vegan Soul acknowledged that even though they wanted to reopen the Agnes St. spot, they could not recover from the pandemic’s battles.

That’s what Kirsten Ussery, co-owner and general manager of Detroit Vegan Soul, said Crain’s Detroit Business it became expensive to hold the position while seeking to occupy staff positions.

“We’ve been trying to add staff for two years,” Ussery said Crain’s. “It became financially impossible to continue to hold the position without generating revenue and not having reliable employees.”

The Detroit Vegan Soul will now use the 19614 Grand River Ave. site as its home base, though the store will remain closed until April.
