Paramount + has revealed this Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 is coming to the streaming platform this summer, and that the series has already been renewed for a fourth season, which will consist of 10 episodes. The animated comedy series focuses on the junior officers on one of the federation’s ships and makes fun of all the absurd experiences that these semi-discardable people experience due to the decisions of the main crew.

Made by Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty, The opposites of the sun), Star Trek: Lower deck follows the crew on the USS Cerritos. While some protagonists in Star Trek franchise – including Captain Kirk and Spock – occasionally crossover, the series quickly learned to stand on its own two feet. After a well-received first season, Lower deck became more confident and gave the characters more space and created their own corner in the cosmos. While season 2 is even more fun than the first, it also proved that the series offers much more than jokes and that the animated media allow Star Trek to walk boldly where it has not gone before.

Star Trek: Lower deckThe successful reception not only allowed the series to be renewed for a fourth season before the third has even been aired, but also opened the doors to other animated Star Trek productions. Last year we premiered Star Trek: Wonder Children, an animated show aimed at the younger Trekkers that gave fans the first team composed entirely of aliens.

Star Trek helps Paramount + fight the streaming wars with both the classic series and new productions. Besides keeping the complete library off Star Trek series and movies, Paramount + is also the exclusive home for future seasons of the popular show Star Trek: Discovery. The new generation of Star Trek productions also continue to expand with Star Trek: Picard. Both Discovery and Picard is among the most watched original series on Paramount +, which proves that the streaming platform is very dependent on Star Trek franchise to attract new subscriptions. So it’s not that strange Paramount + continues to aggressively expand its Star Trek programming – to the delight of fans.

This year we get a premiere Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the USS Enterprise. there is also one Starfleet Academy and one § 31 series in production, which expands the franchise to new and exciting directions.

Third season of Star Trek: Lower deck debuts exclusively on Paramount + sometime this summer with a total of 10 episodes. No release window for season 4 has been announced yet.
