First came the Magritte and now comes Monet. The UK art market received another fill yesterday when a rare selection of Claude Monet’s paintings was revealed as heading towards the block.
Five paintings by the Paris-born artist who helped create Impressionism and many of the 20th century’s most influential art movements are to be sold in London by March.
The Sotheby’s auction will also include René Magrittes Empire of Light which with an upper price tag of £ 45 million is one of the highest estimates ever for a work of art sold in Europe.

The Monet paintings, valued at around £ 50 million, include one of his chrysanthemum still lifes and a famous haystack painting.
These two originate from
