A NYPD police officer and a suspect were shot in Staten Island early Thursday, police said.
Police conducted a search at an address on Rockne Street between Ellwood Avenue and Villa Nova Street in Heartland Village around noon.
Police fired back at the suspect and beat him, according to sources.
The officer was taken to Staten Island University North Hospital and described as “conscious and mindful,” the sources said.
The extent of the suspect’s injuries was not immediately clear.
The incident comes two days after both an officer and a suspect were shot in the Bronx with non-life-threatening injuries.
