How can the Marvel Cinematic Universe make Nightcrawler a hit with the X-Men? Here are 9 ways to make that happen.
There are certain X-Men that have to be well represented on the big screen. The 20th Century Fox Marvel run managed to do that with some of them. Among those done well was Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler.
Actor Alan Cumming did a stellar job as the character in X2: X-Men United. The opening scene where Nightcrawler easily defeated the secret service is among the best moments in comic book movie history. Nightcrawler’s religious background was also well portrayed. It’s a shame it was the only time Kurt looked good in a comic book movie.
Kodi Smit-McPhee took over the role of Nightcrawler in X-Men: Apocalypse spirit Dark Phoenix. Unfortunately, this version of the character left a lot to be desired. Nevertheless, those movies are in the past. All we can do now is look forward.
With the X-Men hopefully on their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can hope that Nightcrawler will join them. Here are nine aspects of Nightcrawler that are essential to making the character successful on the big screen.
9. His Teleporting ability
Nightcrawler’s teleporting powers have to be used in clever ways. As we have seen in multiple video games, it’s definitely possible for this to lend itself nicely to the story. Nightcrawler teleportation can lose fans due to lack of memorable moments or leave viewers in awe if it’s pulled off correctly. Combining his powers with his agility, and prehensile tail will do just that.
Also, the brimstone smell that comes with his teleporting should be mentioned. It’s important to his backstory. On that note, Nightcrawler is popular enough to get a solo project in the future, especially with Disney Plus getting positive receptions from MCU programs like Loki spirit WandaVision. Once the smell is mentioned, people may start to look into who his father is in the comics… and that’s only the beginning of what a Nightcrawler project could cover.
