Spider-Man Beat Thanos With The Infinity Gauntlet, But Nobody Remembers

Spider-Man used the Infinity Gauntlet against Thanos and restored the universe after he snapped half of life from existence – but nobody remembers.

One of Spider-Man’s greatest victories is a fight his fellow heroes do not remember, as the web-slinger’s defeat of Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet is only known by him. In Avengers & The Infinity Gauntlet # 4 from Marvel Comics, which retold the classic The Infinity Gauntlet saga but with a humorous twist, Spider-Man manages to take down Thanos. But, when he snaps the gauntlet and restores those who were originally snapped away, nobody remembers his heroic action in saving the universe.

The Infinity Gauntlet by Jim Starlin, George Perez, and Ron Lim is one of Marvel Comics ‘most popular and influential stories, as Thanos’ quest to win Death’s affection by snapping half of life in the universe from existence has proven to be a timeless classic. The story, which saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that were not snapped away by the supervillains’ use of the Infinity Gauntlet take a final stand against the cosmic juggernaut, is incredibly epic as it made Thanos Marvel’s ultimate villain. The comic was adapted in the Infinity Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where the Avengers dealt with a similar snap after the Mad Titan acquired all of the Infinity Stones.

Avengers & The Infinity Gauntlet by Brian Clevinger, Lee Black, Brian Churilla, Terry Pallot, Sandu Florea, Michelle Madsen, and Clayton Cowles from Marvel Comics took on the iconic Infinity Gauntlet storyline starring Thanos but in a much more lighthearted and funny way. In the miniseries’ final issue, Spider-Man manages to rip the Infinity Gauntlet off the Mad Titan’s hand during their fight, as he becomes overwhelmed with what to do next now that he’s stolen the reality-changing weapon. When Thanos attacks, Spider-Man uses the gauntlet to wish that the villain never acquired the Infinity Stones.

Spider-Man Thanos

Spider-Man ends up rewriting reality and reversing the snap, but when he returns to Earth alongside his fellow Avengers, they have no idea who Thanos is and look at him funny when he tells them about the fight and that he saved the world. Spider-Man laments that it would be nice if someone remembered what he did, even if being a hero is about doing the right thing “no matter the consequences.”

Spider-Man Thanos

It’s hard not to sympathize with Spider-Man, as the hero saved the universe from its biggest threat in epic fashion with the Infinity Gauntlet, but nobody believes him. He did the impossible, and the Avengers think he got a screw loose instead of offering the hero praise for the victory.

In the non-canon Marvel Comics story, despite Spider-Man winning the fight against Thanos by using the Infinity Gauntlet against him, none of his fellow Avengers remember it happening. Saving the universe from the Mad Titan’s snap is one of the hero’s most remarkable feats, but in this case, Spider-Man beating Thanos and using the Infinity Gauntlet to restore the world was not the great victory the web-slinger hoped for, at least when it comes to glory.
