The Boys‘highly-anticipated season three just landed on Amazon Prime, and it is already bringing out the big guns.
Mad Max: Fury Road actress Charlize Theron makes a cameo appearance in the first episode of the season, playing Aya Cash’s Stormfront in a film they’re making in-universe called Dawn of the Seven.
Digital Spy spoke to showrunner Eric Kripke to find out how they made this A-list cameo happen. It turns out, Theron had no idea just how big the cameo was going to be.
“She did it really as a favor to Seth Rogen because they had just made Long Shot together, “Kripke said.” I really feel bad. I think she was under the assumption it was going to be like, ‘Oh, you need me to come in for two hours, and do a thing.’ “

Kripke revealed that they had built an elaborate set for the scene, and that they had to completely redo the supersuit because Theron is taller than Cash.
“She said yes. And immediately we had to get her fitted for the supersuit, and design the supersuit around her, because she’s a lot taller than Aya Cash. So we had to redo the supersuit,” he said.
“We shot her part in Los Angeles. Her side of that scene is shot in Los Angeles. But then we had to bring her in for really – I think she thought she was going to stand in front of a green screen and say a couple of lines and be done. And we had built that whole set. “
“I think she showed up that day, and was like, ‘Oh, dear God, this is going to be my whole day,'” he admitted.

Incidentally, Theron had just made a cameo appearance as Clea in Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswhich Kripke saw as a bonus.
“I just saw the Doctor Strange thing, “he added.” It just made me sort of clasp my hands with glee, because it just shows how perfect it works out for us – it’s something that Marvel is doing as well. “
The Boys seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch in full on Amazon Prime Video. Season 3 premiered on June 3.
