Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Becomes Wonder Man In Amazing MCU Art

A new piece of MCU art imagines what Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will look like as Wonder Man in the upcoming Disney+ show from Marvel Studios.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II becomes Wonder Man for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an amazing piece of art. It was announced in 2022 that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was joining the MCU as Simon Williams to be the lead of a Wonder Man Disney+ show developed by Destin Daniel Cretton. His casting came even after he played Black Manta in the DC Universe. There is plenty of excitement to see Wonder Man in the MCU and what Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will look like as the powerful Marvel superhero.

As audiences wait for more news on Wonder Manartist Marvelicky took a chance to imagine what Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will look like as his missing MCU Phase 6 hero. The artist shared a glimpse of concept art they created for fun on Twitter, while the full design and alternates are available on Patreon. The rather amazing Wonder Man art is given to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II the character’s usual red glowing eyes that come from his ionic energy powers. The prominent “V” on the chest is not standard for Wonder Man’s comic costumes.

Wonder Man’s MCU Future Explained

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is expected to make his MCU debut as Wonder Man in the upcoming Disney+ series. The Wonder Man show comes from Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Andrew Guest and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton. It is described as a Hollywood satire that plays into Simon Williams’ history of being an actor, and production on the upcoming MCU show is expected to begin in 2023. That should mean that Wonder Man debuts on Disney+ sometime in 2024. That leaves room for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to potentially appear before his solo series.

It is fully expected that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Wonder Man will have a major role in the MCU after his debut. This could include a significant return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which Cretton is directing. Just as his involvement in Avengers 5 has led to the assumption that Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi will have a big part to play in the movie, Cretton helping bring Wonder Man to the screen could also be part of these plans. And if Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is in Avengers: The Kang Dynastya return in Avengers: Secret Wars becomes all the more likely.

Even if he somehow does not appear in the upcoming Avengers movies, Wonder Man’s MCU future will surely see him be an Avenger at some point. He has spent time on the Avengers roster and helped found the West Coast Avengers team in the comics. The latter could open the door for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to return in other upcoming projects featuring West Coast Avengers members, such as Armor Wars or Vision Quest. So, audiences should be prepared for a lot of Wonder Man in the future.
