Body of a man found from the river in York

Police, who have been at the scene of an incident in downtown York this morning, (Tuesday, November 16), say a body has been found from the river.

Officers were stationed at Lendal Bridge.

They told pedestrians to use the Museum Gardens side of the bridge only.

North Street Gardens was also cordoned off.

In an update from @NYP_York, they said:

“Shortly after 02.30 this morning (16 November 2021) we received reports that a man had entered the Ouse river off the Lendal bridge.

York officers attended by ambulance, fire and @yorkrescueboat crew were on site.

“There were several attempts by both the public and the emergency services to save the man.

“Unfortunately, these rescue attempts failed, and the Underwater Search Unit later found a body out of the water.
