Video shows him wearing sunglasses and dust mask, buying a vape with cash inside a 7-Eleven store on Beverly and Wilshire boulevards, police said in a Tuesday news briefing.

For a moment, he pulls the mask down to say something to the clerk whose face is blurred in the version of the video police released Tuesday. Then he grabs some coins from the take-a-penny tray on the counter and hands them over along with a note.

Around 1:30 p.m. PT on Jan. 13, the man allegedly walked into Croft House and apparently did not go unnoticed by Kupfer. Police revealed on Tuesday that she texted a friend minutes before her death that there was a man inside the store who was luring her out.

“She texted a friend and told her there was someone inside the place who gave her a bad mood,” LAPD lieutenant John Radtke said of the January 13 killing. “Sorry, that person did not see the text right away.”

The suspect is described as a thin black man who is more than 6 feet tall. He has short dreadlocks. In surveillance video after the attack, he is wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt, dark gray chinos and a dark blue backpack.

Police warned that anyone who sees him should call 911 and not contact him.
