Bruce Blakeman defeats Laura Curran for Nassau director after counting absenteeism

Republican Bruce Blakeman has defeated Democratic Nassau County Executive Laura Curran after Nassau’s Electoral Commission completed its count of absentee ballots, Nassau Democratic Electoral Commissioner said Tuesday.

Blakeman had a total of 142,626 votes compared to Curran’s 140,476 votes, Nassau Democratic Electoral Commissioner James Scheuerman said.

“It’s over now,” said Jacobs, also the state’s Democratic president.

“We congratulate Bruce Blakeman and wish him the best of luck,” Jacobs said.

Blakeman said he received a congratulatory call from Curran on Tuesday.

“I’m very happy, I’m very grateful that the voters in Nassau County have given me their trust,” Blakeman told Newsday.

“I look forward to moving forward and doing a good job for the people of Nassau County,” Blakeman said.
