Job Summary:

This position is for a researcher within the Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Research Center Laboratory in the Environmental Health Division of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (WSLH). The successful candidate will be the laboratory lead, primary chemist & instrumentation specialist for the laboratory, which includes a recently installed SCIEX 7500 Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer System, configured with an Exion UPLC Liquid Chromatograph (LC-MSMS). This researcher will also work with staff and students on a high-resolution QTOF-MS (Waters Xevo G2-XS QTOF 4K) and a new Combustion Ion Chromatograph (Metrohm Profiler CIC). Some field work will be required. .

This position provides critical expertise in PFAS analysis and research and is responsible for the development, validation and implementation of advanced methods for a wide variety of research applications. These will include the development of applications for addressing atmospheric cycling of PFAS, new methods for volatile and precursor PFAS in a wide variety of matrices, compound discovery using QTOF/NTA (among other expected projects).

The successful candidate will be expected to work independently on method development and will have primary responsibility for the successful analysis of PFAS of all samples in analytical queue. He/she will work closely with collaborators and clients to ensure their data quality needs are met. This position is also responsible for review, reduction and interpretation of data produced by the LC-MSMS. He/she , in close cooperation with the group leader, will serve as a liaison to outside organizations (UW System, State and Federal partners) in providing information regarding PFAS methods and applications. Other responsibilities include documenting new methods and training other chemists and graduate students.

BS/MS in Chemistry, Biology or related Environmental Science.

Qualifications:

Chemist II title: Minimum of 2 years LCMS experience with PFAS analysis experience preferred.

Chemist III title: Minimum 5 years LCMS experience with PFAS analysis experience preferred.

Additional Information:

Minimum salary for Chemist II: $57,000.
Minimum salary for Chemist III: $65,000.
