Some newly revealed merchandise for Marvel outing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may have just revealed a huge surprise, with a t-shirt suggesting that a variant version of The Avengers could be coming to Doctor Strange’s aid. Unveiled by Twitter user Le QG des Supers, and listed on Amazon, the merchandise itself does not give too much away, simply showing an image of the familiar Avengers logo. It is the description alongside it that offers the real juicy details …

“Experience Doctor Stephen Strange in a whole new mind-bending adventure with Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This Avengers t-shirt showcases the Avengers logo for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that might just be from a whole new multiverse.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is already expected to be vastly epic in scope, as The Master of the Mystic Arts attempts to fix the slowly corroding barriers keeping the multiverse at bay. Thanks to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which finds Doctor Strange casting a botched spell and unleashing the madness of the multiverse on the MCU, Doctor Strange 2 will see the character embark on a mission to stop an alternate version of himself, whose threat to humanity is too great for the combined forces of Strange, Wong, and Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Whether an alternate version of The Avengers will make an appearance is far from confirmed, but with the threat inherent in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looking to be far more than Strange and his allies can handle, it is certainly possible that he will turn to multiversal heroes for help. While the line-up of this potential variant Avengers also remains a mystery, it stands to reason that, with the movie’s main villain being the Dark Doctor Strange who was introduced in the animated series What If …?, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could see live action versions of Captain Carter and the rest of the Guardians of the Multiverse. Could this even be how The Fantastic Four spirit The X-Men are introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Despite the merchandise on display here, The Avengers making an appearance is still speculative at this stage. However, earlier merch has confirmed that several variants and villains will feature in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, including several versions of the titular doctor and a tentacled villain that should be familiar to Marvel Comics fans.

Alongside Dark Doctor Strange, a version of the character who has been corrupted by his use of magic from The Dark Dimension, the Doctor Strange sequel will introduce audiences to the magnificently pony-tailed Defender Strange. In the comics, Defender Strange is a member of a superhero team that consists of Hulk, Namor, The Silver Surfer, and Valkyrie, and could step in to assist our Doctor Strange in his battle with himself and Gargantos, a giant, one-eyed , tentacled monster.

Expect many more mysteries to present themselves before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
