Edmonton Weather: Freezing rain brings slippery roads with multiple collisions and transit delays

Edmontonians woke up to icy conditions on the roads this morning when a frost warning was in effect.

According to Environment Canada, the freezing rain warning has ceased for Edmonton, Sherwood Park and St. Louis. Albert.

According to the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) from 6 p.m. 05.00 to 09.30 a total of 59 collisions have been reported. One hit and ran, four with injuries and 54 causing material damage.

EPS reminds motorists to slow down and drive to road conditions.

The Edmonton Transit Service has now resumed, but reminds people taking transit that they will move more slowly due to road conditions.

According to 511 Alberta, the official road report for the province, the roads from Edmonton to Entwistle and Red Deer were covered in ice, as well as reports of collisions with several vehicles on several highways throughout the province.
