FCC votes to allow text messages to the upcoming 988 suicide prevention hotline

While the 10-digit national suicide prevention lifeline already exists – 1-800-273-8255 [TALK] – Experts have long suggested implementing a simple, three-digit number, such as 911, that people can call if they are experiencing a mental health crisis. This easier to dial 988 number is already underway and will direct calls to the existing Suicide Prevention Helpline from July 16, 2022.
