Organizational Summary:

WUSF Public
Media is a comprehensive public media organization that operates an NPR news and jazz radio station and an all-classical music radio
station, and provides digital content online, through newsletters, podcasts and social media and serves a weekly audience of greater than
350,000. It is a department of the University of South Florida, with 70 employees and a budget of $12 million and provides internships to
students. WUSF Public Media’s main studios are on the USF Tampa campus, with a broadcast and music performance studio on the USFSM campus
and an office and news production studio on the USFSP campus.

Position Summary:

FLORIDA MATTERS is WUSF’s signature,
weekly public affairs show. The host of Florida Matters will be knowledgeable about the issues, policies and politics facing residents of
the west central region of Florida and Floridians in general, and have the ability to talk to newsmakers, policymakers and citizens about
issues in a relevant, relatable way.

This position serves as the weekly radio host and works with a full-time producer to develop
shows that reflect the complexity and diversity of the greater Tampa Bay region. This position is occasionally called upon to anchor live
special news coverage such as breaking news, elections and disasters, and live and live-to-tape, town hall-style community
events.

  • Host Florida Matters, WUSF’s weekly public affairs show. Prep and interview guests; attend and host occasional live
    town hall events in community; host live, and special news coverage as needed. Local content reflects the highest of NPR and WUSF
    News standards and ethics at all times.
  • Develop short- and long-term show topics with Florida Matters producer by researching
    topics, developing scripts and identifying guests that reflect the diversity of the greater Tampa Bay region and
    Florida.
  • Participate in community engagement journalism using social media, analytics and other tools to connect to existing and new
    audience.
  • Attend station events, assist with fundraising and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education &
Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism,
Communications or related field and two years of directly related experience; or a Master’s degree in the fields listed above. Four years of
vocational/technical training and experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree requirement.

Preferred
Qualifications:

Experienced broadcast journalist, able to inform and engage listeners through meaningful dialogue on a wide
variety of guests and topics. Radio reporting and producing experience is preferred, as is an understanding of public media, on-air
fundraising skills, and strong writing skills.
