Job Summary: 

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) has committed to a multi-year project to upgrade our
Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system, Banner by Ellucian (the Banner 9 Project). The Banner 9 Upgrade will provide UFV with the most
modern Student Information System (SIS), Finance System, and Human Resources (HR)/Payroll System, and will modernize and align essential
business functions with institutional strategic planning.

A subject matter expert from the Office of the Registrar (OReg) is required
to work as a functional analyst, directing the functional activities, analysis and re-design of business processes and implementation of the
ERP.

The Functional Analyst will be considered a critical team member in the successful rollout of Banner 9. The
individual will be highly analytical, curious, and able to think critically and solve challenging problems. They will be independently
motivated and be interested in leading their unit’s project progress, be an excellent team member, and be willing and able to
contribute positively to the upgrade effort.

The Functional Analyst will be responsible for the in-depth understanding of
current processes and business needs, leading process improvement and re-design, measurement of activities that are aligned to key business
initiatives, and implementing solutions that increase productivity and operational efficiencies for the University. Project duties
include:

  • Directing the functional activities, analysis, design and redesign of business processes overseen by the
    Registrar’s Office and affecting students and student related functions for the Banner 9 upgrade program
  • Working with third
    party consultants and the internal project team to lead the functional implementation in OReg
  • Analyzing current departmental and
    university process and providing recommendations and guidance on how these processes will be operationalized in Banner 9
  • Conducting
    fit-gap analysis prior to and during system implementation in order to adapt current processes, assessing requirements, and identifying
    business practices that may or may not be covered in the system implementation process
  • Identifying the opportunities to reduce
    customizations and modifications in Banner
  • Receiving requests for customizations and modifications in Banner, and working with
    proponents to prepare business plans and decision documents to support these requests
  • Acting as change agent for improved and
    increased functionality in Banner, disseminating the benefits of the business transformation and receiving feedback from stakeholders about
    the ERP implementation and process changes
  • Becoming an expert in the functional operations of Banner 9 Student and student
    financials, as overseen by the Registrar’s Office. Engaging with others in the sector to identify best, and alternative practices
    related to system configuration and use
  • Training other departmental and University users in the functional use of the Banner system
    as required
  • Must be available to travel to related conferences 2-3 times per year for the duration of the project
  • Must be
    available to work some evenings, weekends, and overtime hours as required by the project schedule


Qualifications:

  • 3 year diploma in business, information systems, operation management. An equivalent combination of
    education and experience may be considered
  • Courses completed in Business Analysis, Process Design and/or project management an
    asset
  • Minimum five (5) years working in a Registrar’s Office, Dean’s Office or Enrolment Services organization
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of the Ellucian Banner Student Information System (Banner) as deployed at the University of the Fraser
    Valley (UFV)
  • Specialized in-depth current knowledge of forms, tables and processes in either the Admissions, General Person &
    Academic History modules or the General Student, Registration, Academic History & Student Accounts Receivable modules on Banner at UFV.
    Experience in additional modules (e.g. Course Catalog, Class Schedule) is also expected
  • Direct current experience in supporting
    students and the university community using either the Admissions, General Person & Academic History modules or the General Student,
    Registration, Academic History & Student Accounts Receivable modules on Banner at UFV
  • Broad understanding of all modules in
    Banner Student and how they are interrelated
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, self-motivation and able to exercise
    independent judgement and take action on it
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing and documenting student related business processes
    and their application in Banner, including system requirements
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, simultaneous deadlines,
    complex and confidential issues and a rapidly evolving, sometimes ambiguous, environment
  • Strong verbal and written communications
    skills and the ability to make effective public presentations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the institution
    and with external stakeholders
  • Experience in training functional users of the Banner Ellucian system
  • Experience in change
    management or familiarity with change management processes
