Google is celebrating Betty White’s birthday with a special tribute to the late star.

On Monday, January 17 – what would have been White’s 100th birthday – Google searches for her name resulted in rose petals fluttering down the screen, accompanied by a message that read “Thank you for being a friend.” The message is a familiar line from the celebrity song for The Golden Girls, in which White starred as Rose Nylund from 1985 to 1992.

White died on December 31 at the age of 99, six days after having a stroke, according to a copy of her death certificate that PEOPLE obtained last week.

Also on Monday, a special film event, Betty White: A party, will be shown in selected theaters across the country in her honor.

The movie, which was originally called Betty White: 100 years young before her death, will feature clips from White’s long career in Hollywood, from her early role in a 1950s sitcom to Golden Girls, Hot in Cleveland and The proposal.

It will feature White and a star-studded cast of her famous friends, including Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Robert Redford, Lin Manuel-Miranda, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Jay Leno, Carol Burnett, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, Valerie Bertinelli, James Corden, Wendy Malick and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Steven Boettcher, who produced and directed the one-day special, previously told PEOPLE that White recorded her own message for the film just 10 days before she died. He said she was in a “good mood” the day she filmed it.

“She was amazing, she was funny, she was the adorable Betty White we all know and love,” he said. “I mean, you see her, and you just can not help but love her, and she was amazing – just amazing.”

“She really also got the point of talking to the fans and just saying how much love and admiration she has for them, and it’s so sincere that she really meant it,” Boettcher added. “And it was her idea to make this little video. It was not our idea, so I think that makes it even more special.”

Boettcher said he had been working with White on the project for the past decade and grew close to her during that time. He described the finished film as “just really Betty.”

“People meeting and celebrating Betty is really the most important thing and the reason we went ahead with it, because Betty would have liked it,” he said.

Prior to her hundredth birthday, White even opened up to PEOPLE about how she felt about turning 100 years old.

According to her, it was the key to her optimistic nature to be “born as a handsome optimist”. “I got it from my mom and it never changed,” she said. “I always find the positive.”

Of course, the actress also made a joke about the secret behind her long life and told PEOPLE: “I try to avoid everything green. I think it works.”
