What We Are Looking For

The Graduate Writing Center Manager will oversee
the operations of the Graduate Writing Center, which will be expanded to provide services to all graduate students–on-campus doctorate,
on-campus masters, on-line and professional. This is a proactive position, designed to meet the challenges of our current GWC (which is
already maxed out at 350 appointments a year), expand to meet the needs of our rapidly growing on-line and professional graduate students,
and expand in responsibilities and title to include the Dissertation & Thesis area of the Graduate School. The GWC Manager will work with
the Associate Dean of Professional Development to oversee the budget, hiring and coordinating of writing consultants, strategic development
and expansion, and support of .

A PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, English Literature or related field, two years of relevant work
experience, and a Christian faith are required. Experience will not be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

Additional Key

  • Working knowledge of writing center theory and literature that informs the mission and goals of the writing center and
    in turn its practices
  • At least 2-years-experience working in a university writing center setting, training and managing staff, and
    communicating the mission and resources of the organization to those across the academic community
  • Ability to discern and respond
    to the needs of a graduate student population and adapt typical writing center practices to fit their unique needs.
  • Ability to
    work across disciplines and with faculty as effectively as with graduate students

What You Will Do

  • Work
    within the Professional Development under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Professional Development. Position reports directly to
    the Associate Dean of Professional Development within the Graduate School.
  • Oversee the expansion of the current GWC to meet the
    needs of on-campus research doctoral students, on-campus master students, and online and professional graduate studentsincluding developing
    a strategic plan to expand the resources provided by the GWC to better meet the needs of all Baylor graduate students
  • Oversee the
    yearly hiring of GWC consultants who should represent the diversity of our graduate programs, including:

    • Overseeing training
    • Monitoring their work with graduate students
    • Managing the GWC schedule to cover graduate academic calendars
    • Working
      with the Graduate School to facilitate the hiring process.
  • Oversee interactions with graduate students served by the
    GWC, including conflict resolution and covering appointments as needed
  • Enhance the visibility of the GWC by meeting with Deans,
    GPDs, and Graduate faculty throughout the university, assessing the writing needs of different programs and developing ways to help meet
    those needs within the GWC, including but not limited to departmental specific programming.
  • Building programs that further develop
    the writing skills of graduate students, including Write-Ins, Dissertation Labs, writing workshops, graduate student writing groups, as well
    as programs that specifically equip underrepresented minority graduate students
  • Work with the External Grant Funding Specialists
    to better equip our graduate students to successfully apply for grants and fellowships
  • Work with the Dissertation & Thesis area
    within the Graduate School to help better equip graduate students for the completion of their dissertations and theses.
