How 2022’s most exciting Sci-Fi movie differs from recent movies

2022 welcomes some long-awaited sci-fi films, but the most exciting are very different from recent and successful films.

2022 has a long list of upcoming sci-fi movies, both major productions and smaller projects, and the most exciting are very different from newer (and popular) sci-fi movies. The sci-fi genre continues to be one of the most popular, profitable and exciting thanks to the many different stories, characters and styles that can be told through it. Of course, the sci-fi realm has seen the emergence of some of the biggest names in the film industry, but there are also directors who, although associated with other genres, have brought some pretty impressive and memorable sci-fi works.

2021 was a big year for sci-fi movies, especially since there were many who had to be postponed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic and were finally able to get to the cinema (and streaming in many cases) in the middle of end of 2021 Some of the most notable sci-fi movies released in 2021 were A quiet place II (which mixes with horror), Free guy (with a good portion of comedy), The Matrix Resurrection, and Dune, all brought different styles to the big screen, but in the end, all the major productions were led by well-known names and backed by some of the major production companies.

This year’s list of sci-fi films has a bit of everything and also has some great budget productions that audiences have been eagerly waiting to see, such as. Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness, Jurassic World: Dominion, Avatar 2, and Light year, but while all of these are exciting and offer variety, the most exciting sci-fi movies coming in 2022 are very different. Among these big names and franchises are 65, Just calm down darling, and All at once, three sci-fi movies with different styles, voices and tones, and what makes them so exciting is that they are far from what projects like Dune and Tenet have brought recently.

Just calm down darling Olivia Wilde

65 is a sci-fi thriller film written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (authors of A quiet place). 65 follows an astronaut who crash-lands on a mysterious planet, but he quickly discovers that he is not alone and the main characters are Adam Driver, Ariana Greenblatt and Chloe Coleman. Then there is Just calm down darling, directed by Olivia Wilde and described as a sci-fi, horror and psychological thriller at once. Just calm down darling tells the story of Alice (Florence Pugh), an unhappy housewife in the 1950s who discovers a disturbing truth while her husband, Jack (Harry Styles), hides a dark secret. Last but not least is All at once, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Swiss army man), which follows Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh) across multiple universes. All of these projects are original stories, are not part of the franchise, offer bold stories and are smaller productions than the most successful recent sci-fi titles: Dune and Tenet.

Tenet and Dune were ambitious large productions with complex and layered story lines (which gave them a lot of praise but were also criticized by some) and were very well received by critics and viewers (and all things considered, they did well in the box office). These projects were also managed by two of the most notable names in sci-fi – Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve – so there was a level of quality expected of them. The lesser-known sci-fi films of 2022 are more exciting than sequels from major franchises and films from well-known sci-fi directors, precisely because they offer something new from directors who are either not typically associated with the genre or do not have many movies in their filmographies, and they also offer bolder (and original) stories that bring some freshness to the sci-fi world. Of course, this is not to say that successors like it Jurassic World: Dominion or Doctor Strange 2 is not exciting, but after movies like Dune, Tenet, and Matrix, smaller productions with original stories are more necessary.
