Husband shoots wife dead in NW Austin’s home while children were inside, police say

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Police are investigating a murder that occurred Tuesday night at Spicewood Parkway off Anderson Mill Road in northwest Austin.

41-year-old Vanessa Neves was found shot dead in a home. Police say her husband, 54-year-old James Neves, hit the trigger.

Two children were inside the home at the time but were not injured.

James Neves is currently in jail and charged with first-degree murder. No lawyer has yet been listed in his case who has been able to comment. His bail is set at $ 750,000.

This is the 73rd homicide in Austin this year.

Murders in the city have increased dramatically over the past year. On July 23, the total number reported in 2021 exceeded the total number for the whole of 2020.
