The world is just under 10 days from experiencing James Gunn’s The suicide group. If early reactions to the film are anything to go by, it seems that Warner Bros. maybe have a hit on their hands. At least it’s definitely going to do better than the first movie, Suicide Squad.
Warner Bros. must have been pretty sure The suicide group itself, because an entire TV series about John Cena’s Peacemaker (shown in the film) was written, announced, and filmed completely before the film even released.
Things definitely turned around for Gunn. With his DC projects along with his two upcoming Marvel projects, the man has a ton on his plate. But being a filmmaker there is always something more. So what does James Gunn plan to do next? And could he once again venture into the world of DC Comics?
GUNNING FOR A FUTURE DC PROJECT?
On Twitter, user @TheThinkerFr asked James Gunn if he has had any discussions with both Warner Bros. and DC about another potential DC Comics project that Gunn can tackle next time.
In response, James Gunn gave a firm and blunt answer: “I have yes!”
WHAT’S NEXT TO THE GUN
It is not told what these projects could be. At one point and another, Krypto was on Gunns’ mind as well as the crazy idea of a Marvel / DC crossover. But if Warner Bros. already offered access to everything he wanted, the studio could put it on the table again.
After both The suicide group and Peacemaker, fans will shift gears and rely on the wild things the director / writer has in mind for the MCU and Guardians protecting its universe. After all, he has to have something pretty unique in mind if it trumps how he feels about most other superhero movies.
James Gunn has said it many times Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last project in the series and perhaps MCU as a whole. Although given the success he has found, it would not be surprising if the world ends up getting many more Gunn-directed / written superhero projects.
The suicide group will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
