Jana Kramer marks her first Thanksgiving without her children.
The country singer, 37, shared an emotional Instagram post Thursday morning where she talked about the struggles she faces on vacation as a single mother after applying for divorce from retired NFL player Mike Caussin, 34, in April . The couple share daughter Jolie Rae, 5, and son Jace Joseph, 2, who appear to be spending Thanksgiving with their father.
“Happy Thanksgiving 🖤. I’m more than grateful for my beautiful babies,” Kramer began the post, sharing a photo of herself holding hands with Jolie and Jace, all three smiling at the camera. “My heart hurts not to be with them today and I have a feeling whether it’s the first holiday apart or the 30th that will always hurt my heart … BUT how grateful I am and grateful that I am their mother. “
She then added a message of solidarity to those going through a similar situation: “Think of all the others who have a ‘first’ holiday with loss or missing or just a hard time,” she wrote. “Let it out, and then let’s eat and drink our emotions 😂😂.”

Earlier in the day was One Tree Hill alum shared a raw video of himself on his Instagram Stories, crying on the couch in his home in Nashville.
“Happy Thanksgiving,” she said to the camera through tears. “The first one without the kids. I knew it was going to be hard, but the rainy weather outside was not helping.”
She then pointed to the tears rolling down her cheeks and said, “I want to end this, go for a walk and count my blessings, because there is a lot to be thankful for. But I also think it’s okay to feel the feelings. “Holidays are not always easy for everyone, especially if you have a first one.”
Kramer has been open to fans on social media about the emotional strain of being a single mom and navigating life after her breakup from Caussin after six years of marriage.
In September, the star discussed the toll the divorce has taken on her in an episode of her podcast Whine down, and said she could not hold back tears after her last name was legally changed back to Kramer.
“I cried because my kids’ names … these are my kids. It felt so separate and it was really worn,” she said. “When we took Caussin, we were like a family, even though I took Kramer on some things, and it was easier.”
She said it officially broke down to have a different last name than her children’s [her] heart.”
“They are my children. They should have my last name as if I gave birth to them. They came out of my stomach and I have them 70 percent of the time. How does he get that last name?” she said. “I do not know, it hit me really hard. But after I cried, I said, ‘I am Kramer, yes! I have always been Kramer.’ “Then I cried again. After that, I was like, ‘I will never change my last name again, I never will.”

In an emotional Instagram post announcing their divorce in April, Kramer wrote that it was “time” for her and Caussin to separate after six years of marriage. A source told PEOPLE at the time the split was due to Caussin’s infidelity.
“‘It’s time.’ While I try to create meaning about a reality I would never think could be possible again, those words have now become reality, “Kramer wrote in his post. “I have struggled with you. I have loved hard. I have forgiven. I have put the work in. I have given everything I have and now I have nothing else to give.”
An insider told PEOPLE in early September that Kramer had started dating again when she and Jay Cutler, a retired NFL star and Kristin Cavallari’s ex-husband, had been on a date together.
In early October, a source shared with PEOPLE that they had already resigned: “They went on a couple of dates, but in the end, Jana is still single. They realized that they are better off as friends than dating, “said the source.
