John Mayer tests positive for Covid-19, Dead & Company cancels Mexico shows – Deadline

The Grateful Dead originator Dead & Company has canceled scheduled resort shows in Cancun, Mexico this weekend. Frontman John Mayer tested positive for Covid-19 shortly before departure.

Originally, the band planned to continue without Mayer, but today decided to cancel the “Playing in the Sand” shows. Ticket holders will be refunded, with details expected to be sent to the holders.

Dead & Company includes former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, with Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti reinforcing them. The group has existed since 2015.

The announcement of the canceled show was posted on the band’s Instagram.

“With much grief and after much consideration of all possible scenarios, the Playing in the Sand shows in the Riviera Cancun on January 7-10 and January 13-16 have been canceled by CID Presents due to the rising COVID Case 19 Dead & Company and CID Presents tried everything possible to bring normalcy and deliver a great experience and great music, but with each passing day it became more and more clear that cancellation is the right thing to do for the fans and for our “Please see the Playing in the Sand email that will be sent soon with all the details of refunds.
