Kanye West got his wish, at least for a moment, at the late Virgil Abloh’s last Louis Vuitton show. As he recently prayed via a video posted on his Instagram (and then deleted along with the rest of his post), “The only thing I think about every day is how I get my family back together. ” And there on the front row, West reunited Kim Kardashian, who he is divorcing, and their eldest daughter, Nerd.
The French fashion house showed Abloh’s spring / summer 2022 collection in Miami on Tuesday, a few days after his death from a rare cancer that hit his heart. The designer’s passing has ruined the fashion world, including West and Kardashian, who counted Abloh among their closest friends (West, who has officially changed his name to Ye, appointed Abloh creative director of Donda, West’s creative agency, and Abloh also designed much of West’s later album covers. ). Kardashian posted a tribute on her own social media:
“God does not make mistakes. I know, but I still can not help but ask why,” she wrote in the caption. “Why Virgil ?! Why him so fast? It’s simply hard to understand why. I have a hard time understanding why so many pure souls were taken away so early. ”
Then she addressed him directly: “Virgil – you were always so gentle, kind and calm. You somehow got time for everyone. We also often talked about your superpower of calm. You have always given so much of yourself even to the world because you wanted it to be stupid. This one is hard to process. I can not believe I’m writing this at all … We will miss you so much Virgil and love you so much. “
After Abloh launched his own label Off-White, Louis Vuitton appointed him creative director of its men’s division in 2018, making him the Vanity Fair noted in a 2018 profile, the first black man in Louis Vuitton’s 164-year history to debut a menswear line. The label released a video made from Abloh’s last show that serves as a tribute:
