13:53 PT – The service has just ended and Ye was nowhere to be seen. Someone finally took the microphone and delivered a few words when all the singing was done – delivering a general message about God and perseverance, but not explicitly mentioned Astroworld.
Kanye West wants to honor the victims who died in Astroworld – and he uses his religious vehicle for Sunday service to do just that.
The rapper’s latest spiritual music collection is underway right now – and before things officially got underway around 6 p.m. 13.00 PT … there was a message sent out on behalf of Kanye and co., Which read: “Sunday service dedication to the loved ones from Astroworld.”
Clearly, Ye is referring to 8 people died while Travis Scott appeared Friday night … not to mention the countless others who were injured to varying degrees.
So far, it seems that this service has a much gloomier tone than last week – when he came out Marilyn Manson, Justin Bieber and others in what seemed to be the highlight of the day where everyone was wearing white caps as they engaged in worship and singing.
This time … Kanye has his choir and other accompanying singers dressed in all black, and they perform in what appears to be a huge dark building, with only a tab of light breaking through. The main choir went through a few hymns, including some songs from “Donda” – and now it looks like Kanye has a choir out there that also sings.
No sign of Ye himself yet … and no one has shared any explicit words of condolence at this point … the show got underway and it has been nothing but music ever since.
You have to imagine that Kanye might show up at some point and even say something to address the Astroworld tragedy … since Travis is basically his brother-in-law and we know they’re tight.
We keep an eye on things. Stick around …
