Farmingdale State College seeks to fill a 12-month, non-tenure, renewable lecturer position in the Department of Urban Horticulture and Design. This appointment includes a 50% teaching obligation (15 contact hours annually) in horticultural science (topics may include general horticulture, landscape plant materials, greenhouse management and production, etc.) along with Department/College service activities. Teaching activities may include both lecture-based and laboratory instruction delivered in-person and/or online.

The successful candidate will also work closely with faculty and staff colleagues to complete a 50% service obligation that includes oversight and management (under the supervision of the department Chair) of the renowned Robert F. Ench Teaching Gardens and its associated Summer Garden Intern Program. As such, candidates should possess a broad-based knowledge and skill set in the field of horticulture and plant science with proven teaching and professional experience. An appreciation for the appropriate employment of landscape plants in contemporary urban and public horticulture settings is desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are imperative.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree (MS or equivalent graduate degree) in a relevant field (Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, AgriBusiness, Landscape Architecture/Design etc.).

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience managing public gardens or horticultural landscapes.
  • Experience teaching horticulture or related fields to college students.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, 12 month, non-tenure track faculty position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Wednesday, September 22, 2021 and ending Tuesday, October 5, 2021, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • SALARY: $70,000/year, may increase commensurate with experience
  • ANTICIPATED START DATE: September 1, 2022
