Between Batman, Lightning, and Aquaman successor, Warner Bros. has been a little coyer about his Bat girl films that make sense, as it will not be paid until the end of 2022. But thanks to the DC Fandome event, WB gave us a tiny glimpse of Barbara’s new movie, and we’re all set to see this Batgirl kick supervillain ass, even if it’s on the small screen.

Since the film has not started production, yes, the only thing we did was talk heads to star Leslie Grace, author Christina Hodson– who also wrote Lightning and Birds of prey film – and instructors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah the film speaks up. It was mostly general excitement, but Hodson teased that this Batgirl would not be quite so “law-abiding ”as her incarnations, while the directors promised that Batgirl would wear a cloak, as if it were somehow up for debate. Then Leslie confirmed that her Barbara Gordon would also have red hair.

From previous interviews, however, we know the film is said to be inspired by the wonderful “Batgirl of Burnside” story arc, written by Brendon Fletcher and Cameron Stewart, featuring fabulous art by Babs Tarr. It’s unclear what other inspiration the film may take from these questions, but we say the more the better. Check out a piece of concept art from the film unveiled during the event above.

Bat girl seems to be taking place in the DC Extended Universe, formerly led by Zack Snyder, given that JK Simmons will play Barbara’s father, Commissioner Jim Gordon, as he did in Justice League and Batman vs. Superman. Westworld and What if actor Jeffrey Wright plays Gordon in Matt Reeves’ Batman– and is on his way to its own Gotham TV series– but as far as we know, that film has no connection to the larger film universe. Unless Flash is multiverse history decides to connect them. Speaking of which in a most recent interview, the two directors confirmed that Batman will be performing in Bat girl and that it really would be him … which version is the question. That could mean Ben Affleck, who already is repeats the role in the coming Flash film, but seems to have less than no interest in Dark Knight beyond that. It could be BatmanRobert Pattinson, whose Warner Bros. considers him the new “official” Batman. But considering that Flash movies are obviously going to mess with timelines, hell, it can even be Michael Keaton if the instructors mean “real” in the sense of “personal favorite.” George Clooney dog was certainly not asked back.

Bat girl is currently slated to premiere on HBO Max sometime next year. Hopefully we get even more information soon.
