Toney passes the Van Dijk test and looks up Liverpool’s dream
For the first time in the Premier League this season, Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool looked vulnerable in defense.
Jurgen Klopp side had only conceded one goal in five league games en route to Saturday’s competition with Brentford, but were breached three times by the Bees in one night to forget for the Reds.
Ivan Toney was the man who made life difficult for the 30-year-old as his physical strength and ability to make dangerous runs ran problematic for Klopp’s side.
You would not know that this was Tony’s first season at the top level of English football based on his performance, which highlighted for many Brentfords inspired transfer games on the former Peterborough United striker.
Looking forward to his first Premier League campaign in July, Toney admitted that Van Dijk was the best defender likely to face the entire season – a challenge he certainly faced on Saturday.
