  • Lourdes Leon called her mother Madonna a “control freak” when she spoke to Interview Magazine.

  • “I needed to be completely independent of her as soon as I finished high school,” she said.

  • Leon added that her family does not do “handouts”, which meant she had to be financially independent.

Lourdes Leon recently opened up about her relationship with her famous mother, Madonna, and told Interview Magazine that her pop star mother “is such a control freak.”

Leon, the eldest of Madonna’s six children, spoke to the magazine after her performance at the Met Gala in New York City earlier this year. The 25-year-old model made it clear that while she has a famous mother, she works hard to support herself.

“We do not get a distribution card in my family. It is clear that I grew up with an extreme privilege. There is no denying it,” she said. “But I think my mother saw all the other children of famous people, and she was like, ‘My kids are not going to be like that.'”

Leon, whose father is Madonna’s ex, Carlos Leon, added: “My mother is such a control freak and she has controlled me all my life. I needed to be completely independent of her as soon as I finished high school.”

However, in the interview, Leon shared some of the maternal wisdom she has received from Madonna, who is stuck with her.

“I’ve been so preoccupied with living a decent life and wanted to live more luxuriously than I was when I first graduated and did not make much money. She was like, ‘Remember, this shit is not right.'” she that her mother said. “It’s not about the money or your face or how hot you look. It’s about what you bring into the world and what you want to leave behind.”

During the interview, Leon also said that she understands “how influential and amazing” her mother is to the world.

“She is probably the hardest worker I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I have not inherited that. I have inherited her control problems, but not her work ethic,” she said.

Leon made headlines last month when she returned to the modeling world after her debut in 2018.
