Marvel officially declares Aunt May, Doc Ock ‘Comics’ hottest couple’

In Amazing Spider-Man # 80.BEY, Marvel Comics officially declares Aunt May and Doctor Octopus “the hottest couple in comics.”

Marvel Comics has given CBR an exclusive preview of Amazing Spider-Man # 80.BEY, by author Cody Ziglar; artists Ivon Fiorelli, Carlos Gómez and Paco Medina; colorist Rachelle Rosenberg; and letter from VC’s Joe Caramagna. In the preview, Marvel Comics officially declares Aunt May Parker and Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus to be “the hottest couple in comics.”

Doc Ock and Aunt May met in the 1964s Fantastic Spider-Man annually # 1, by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko and Sam Rosen. The two later started dating and almost got married Fantastic Spider-Man # 130 and # 131, by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru, Frank Giacoia, Dave Hunt, Petra Goldberg and Art Simek. The particularly bizarre relationship has remained something of a controversial coupling over the years.

At the beginning of the current “Beyond” arc of Fantastic Spider-Man, Peter Parker was injured in a battle with the U-enemies. Ben Reilly stepped up to take on Spider-Man’s cloak in Peter’s place, as the lingering effects of the battle have kept the original wall crawler on death’s door. IN Fantastic Spider-Man # 80, May decided to take matters into her own hands and sought out Doc Ock to help her figure out how she could help Peter.

Fantastic Spider-Man # 80.BEY, the front page which calls them the “hottest couple in comics”, sees May and Doc Ock go to university where Peter was hurt to get clues as to what’s going on. Otto is constantly flirting with May, but she remains focused on helping Peter. Eventually, Otto finds out some interesting information, discovering traces of “a rare air pollution found only in the industrial district. As well as a very specific type of radiation.”
