Marvel’s Moon Knight star reveals unusual casting history

With its new slate of Disney + shows, Marvel gets the chance to showcase more and more big names inside the MCU.

For the future Moon Knight, the studio has managed to hang both Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke, but it seems the former is responsible for casting the latter in a coffee shop.

On a break from filming the show in Budapest, Hawke performed on Late night with Seth Meyers to chat about his new project and told the story of how he first learned about this little-known Marvel hero.

“I heard about it from Oscar Isaac, who lives like three blocks down the street from me in Brooklyn,” the actor said.

“I was at a coffee shop, he came up to me. He likes, ‘Hey, I really liked it The Good Lord Bird. ‘I was like’ Oh, cool, I really like your work. You are amazing.’ He’s like, ‘Hey, want to be in Moon Knight with me?’ I was like … yes! So it happened the right way. “

Hawke — as Meyers described it as “indie movie royalty” —was impressed with the scale of the Marvel road, for better or worse.

“One of the first things that made [Moon Knight] unlike anything i have ever done before is that i had to sign as 10,000 NDAs about what i would and would not say, which i never did. And I do not respect, and I do not honor. So I’m happy to talk to you about it completely, ”he joked.

“I want to tell you this about it. I’ve been shopping since I was 13. I made my first movie in 1985, okay? And it’s a long time ago. And these are the best sets I’ve ever been in my life. “Costumes, scenography, production design, cinematography, all of these elements are a little awful. So I’ve gotten into an alternate universe, and it’s a little interesting.”

Hawke also said that on the show “they conjure up ancient gods and we fight for good and evil and that is very exciting”.

As for his character, Hawke teased that he based it on American cult leader David Koresh, who Meyers thought Hawke looked like with his long long hair and flying glasses. “I think it works,” the actor pondered.

Moon Knight – written by That Umbrella Academy‘s Jeremy Slater-will concentrate on wealthy mercenary-turned-vigilante Marc Spector (played by Isaac), who struggles with dissociative identity disorder and gains superpowers after becoming a channel for an Egyptian moon-god Khonshu.

Hawke’s role is still unknown at the moment, but it is believed that he plays the main villain of the story. For a star of his caliber, you certainly would not want him to be Isaac’s sidekick.

Moon Knight does not currently have a release date.
