Michael B. Jordan addresses the possibility of Killmonger’s MCU return

Michael B. Jordan once again addresses the possibility of the Black Panthers Killmonger returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in future projects.

Michael B. Jordan once again addresses the possibility of Killmonger returning to Marvel Cinematic Universe. After working with Ryan Coogler on Fruitvale Station and CreedJordan starred in the author / director’s Black Panther in 2018. In the film, Jordan played Erik Stevens alias Killmonger, T’Challas (Chadwick Boseman) antagonist and alienated cousin.

Where T’Challa grew up in the prosperous land of Wakanda, Killmonger grew up on the Oakland projects after the death of his father at the hands of King T’Chaka. The upbringing of the two characters (and in turn worldview) is the core of Black Panther, leading to comments on culture, heritage and society as a whole. After a fierce battle for the Wakandan throne, Killmonger loses to T’Challa in a battle to the death. As the latter offers to heal his cousin while watching the sunset, Killmonger says: “Bury me in the sea, with my ancestors who jumped from the ships, because they knew death was better than bondage. ” Despite his death, fans long for Killmonger’s live action to return as one of MCU’s best villains.

During a recent interview with MTV News, Jordan talked about the possibility that Killmonger could return to the MCU. The actor expressed love for his character and ignorance of Marvel Studios’ notoriously tight plans. In a standard response from MCU stars when asked about the future of their characters, Jordan simply said: “Who knows?” Read his full comments below:

“I think it’s a character and a world that I love so much, who knows? But as we all know, Marvel has their plans and their stuff, who knows how things are going to shake out.”

Killmonger in What If

Not only has Jordan been asked about a Killmonger return before, but he has recently expressed the character in Disney +’s animated What if…? season 1, a series that explored alternative outcomes of important events / storylines in MCU’s multiverse. IN What if…? episode 6, Killmonger rescues Tony Stark from the ten rings in Afghanistan and changes the events of the first Iron Man film, and exacerbate his successful takeover of Wakanda. At the end of season 1, The Watcher (Jeffery Wright) recruits his Guardians of the Multiverse, including King Killmonger, to fight Infinity Ultron. What if…? Episode 9, however, sees Killmonger claim the Infinity Stones for himself, resulting in an eternal battle with Arnim Zola, who is overseen by Doctor Strange Supreme in his pocket universe. Given What if…?s canonical status, King Killmonger may one day escape Strange’s prison and get into live action. Or at least Jordan will continue to express his character in season 2 of the series.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be largely preoccupied with the legacy of the late Boseman. While the plot details are kept hidden, reports indicate that it offers a war between the underwater city of Atlantis and Wakanda as well as Riri Willaims’ MCU debut as Dominique Thorne. The original film’s Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett and Martin Freeman will all repeat their roles for the sequel, which will be released on November 11th. Jordan will not star in the film, as he is currently hard work instructing and assisting Creed 3. Based on Jordan’s comments, however, it is certainly possible that Killmonger may appear elsewhere in Phase 4.
