While overwhelmed by how fellow athletes are today, Packers’ star Davante Adams apparently has none of that culture. He talked this morning about how much he hates everyone he plays against.
“I hate everyone I play against,” Adams said with a blank stare. Someone get this guy signed up for WWE in a decade, thank you.
OK, Michael Jordan played golf with Danny Ainge before playoff games, so it’s not like old school players did not engage with their opponents. It’s all a matter of what era you grew up watching and supporting because boomers would say MJ got in Ainge’s head before the tip-off. And while that may be true, it is also possible athletes have never taken sports as seriously as we thought they did.
But Davante Adams’ statement today was credible. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers tweeted earlier this year that this was “The Last Dance,” so maybe it’s Adams showing a little more of the burning Jordan mentality.
We’d like to see more quotes like these from everyone so we can return to believing that players take losing just as personally as we do.
