Peacock has revealed MacGruber premieres on December 16 with a first look teaser starring Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe and Billy Zane.
The eight-episode action comedy is based on Forte’s recurring MacGyver parody sketch on Saturday Night Live and its 2010 cult film.
The series, which is co-written and executive produced by Forte, starts up after the titular character (Forte) rotted in jail for over a decade and is finally free. His mission: to fight a mysterious villain from his past – Brigadier General Enos Queeth (Zane). With the whole world in the threads, MacGruber must assemble his old team of Vicki St. Elmo (Wiig) and Dixon Piper (Philippe) again to defeat the forces of evil.
Zane’s Queeth is one of MacGruber’s deadly enemies. Long thought dead, he has reappeared to carry out a heinous conspiracy to destroy the world and in the process take revenge on MacGruber.
Other co-stars include Sam Elliott, Laurence Fishburne, Joseph Lee Anderson and Timothy V. Murphy.
Forte works as a writer, showrunner and executive producer alongside John Solomon and Jorma Taccone, who will both also direct. Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer and Erin David also act as executive producers.
