Person shot by police outside Wendy’s in Joliet; officer hit by vehicle

JOLIET, Ill. A person was shot by police outside a Wendy’s in Joliet on Tuesday afternoon and an officer was hit by a vehicle.

Around 3:30 p.m., officers stopped a traffic stop in the parking lot located in the 100-block of North Center Street. Police said a suspect’s vehicle hit and pinched an officer between two vehicles.

Reacting officers fired their weapons at the scene and hit the person. They were taken to a local hospital in unknown condition.

The officer was also transported in stable condition.

The Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force will lead the investigation. Police said the shooting is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
