The principal and deputy principal of Perth Modern School have been suspended following a review of the workplace culture at the school.
- Perth Modern’s principal Lois Joll and her current deputy Val Furphy have been set aside
- The Rector of Shenton College has been appointed to be in charge of Mrs. Joll
- The move takes place after a review of the workplace culture at the school.
Director-General of the Ministry of Education Lisa Rodgers said Shenton College Principal Mike Morgan will step into the role of interim principal at Western Australia’s only fully selective public school for academically gifted students.
The school has topped the academic league table for West Australian Certificate Education (WACE) for the past five years.
Mrs Rodgers said she ordered the review after she was made aware of concerns.
“It has become clear that changes are needed at the school,” she said in a statement.
“To work through these changes at an operational level, I have appointed Mr. Mike Morgan, very experienced principal at Shenton College, to serve as interim principal of Perth Modern School while we review this process.”
