Photos from Flash Season 8 tease along with the Atom For Armageddon event

A new image from The Flash’s upcoming eighth season teases Brandon Routh’s return as The Atom in Arrowverse’s “Armageddon” crossover event.

A new image from Lightning season 8’s upcoming “Armageddon” crossover event has teased the title hero’s team with the returning Ray Palmer, also known as The Atom. After the superhero TV series was officially renewed by The CW in February 2021 ahead of the premiere of its seventh season, it was later announced that the season’s first five episodes would serve as a crossover-like event between the other Arrowverse shows. Other Arrowverse stars that have been confirmed to appear include Batwoman‘s Javicia Leslie, Black Lightning‘s Cress Williams, Super girl‘s Chyler Leigh, and Arrow‘s Katherine McNamara.

While the five-episode special event will kick off the new season, the rest of the episodes will be dedicated to continuing the stories of Barry Allen and Team Flash from season 7. Once again, the show’s original cast returns, including Grant Gustin as the titular hero, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Frost, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk and Jesse L. Martin as Joe West. Within the show’s crossover event, Team Flash is said to be going against their hitherto toughest enemy in space, Despero, leading them to team up with other Arrowverse heroes.

In a recently unveiled campaign image from TVLine, The Flash is shown standing next to Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer, better known as the shrinking superhero, The Atom. In the picture, the two heroes appear to be standing in front of a badly damaged vehicle, looking towards the sky at what can only be assumed as the previously mentioned alien threat. As they watch, the two heroes look incredibly shocked beyond anything they could witness, and they appear to be preparing to use their own powers against it. See the new picture below:

Routh, who last appeared as Ray Palmer in the 100th episode of Legends of Tomorrow after leaving the series’ lead role in the sixth season, it has previously been reported to be unhappy with his choice to leave the time-traveling superhero drama. Routh’s departure from the show with his wife, Courtney Ford, was considered a story decision made by the writers, who decided that the stories of Ray Palmer and Nora Darhk were complete after the couple became a married couple on Legends of Tomorrow. However, Lightning writers seem to have been able to conjure up more stories for the character that enabled Routh to return to the character again in Arrowverse.

Routh’s return to the character can be considered an extreme highlight of such a fan-favorite character, as the authors’ ability to create a new story for him alongside The Flash, despite having been considered finished in Arrowverse, only highlights his potential. for a permanent return in the future of Arrowverse. This is not exclusive to The Atom, as it only further enables former members of Arrowverse’s lineup to return to a certain capacity in the future of the franchise. The audience has to wait and see what surprises the return of these characters has in store once Lightning season 8 premieres on November 16th.
